2007 Chaparral 24″ Open Bow Re-propping Project

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Tom,

Thanks for your inquiry and the opportunity at earning your business. The rated rpm for that motor is 4600 – 5000 so it sounds like it is propped correctly from an rpm standpoint. Typically for a slow planing boat you are looking at the wot rpm being low and therefore going down in pitch allows the rpm to come up which then helps the planing time. Based on th einformation you provided going down in pitch for your case would in fact help the plane time however it would most likely put your rpm too high being over 5,000. The 4 blade front propeller would in fact be a good option to try, although I do understand your issue with having to pay for something without knowing the outcome. In this case I think it would be a pretty good option to check out. I’ve also provided a link below to some other good information for you to read. Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!

Tom writes:
I need some help making a propeller change. I have a 07 Chaparral 24′ open bow with a 350 Mag Bravo III and factory 26′ prop set. Top speed 48 mph (GPS) not sure but I think RPM’s are around 5000. When the boat is moderately loaded it’s a little slow coming up on plane. A boat mechanic suggested trying a new 4 blade front prop 9M8022449 and 8M022459 rear. Understandably no one will let you try out these high priced props so I hope your best propeller man can help me out. Speed is not my biggest concern but I don’t want to lose a lot either. The price does not bother me if it will help the performance. Please give me any experienced advice you can. Thanks Tom

Randy writes:
I am seriously considering a repower for my Wellcraft Coastal 2600. It currently has twin inboard 4.3l Mercruiser with Alpha outdrives. The stern mounted engine require an above deck cowling which is very undesirable for fishing, see attached pics. This boat had an option for motor under the seating with shaft drive. Shaft drives increase draft and is undesirable, whereas, out drive do not. The question to you, is there a motor to drive shaft (10’) to outdrive combination for this boat? I have seen some applications but they refer to the drive shaft as a “jackshaft”. I’m looking for twin 250hp motor combinations. Can you provide links to product you sell to meet my application needs? I found this: http://www.perfprotech.com/store/assembly/DRIVE-SHAFT-EXTENSION-COMPONENTS-(JACKSHAFT-MODELS),1014-450.aspx#assembly But it does not list the stern drive compatability or the whole assembly price. Thanks, Randy
