Mercruiser Parts – Adding an Additional Seawater Pump

Steve,

You don’t want to run 2 seawater supply pumps in a series configuration. If you want to install an additional seawater supply pump you need to install a thru hull fitting with a “y” fitting to supply water to the additional pump. Thsi allows both pumps to supply the water they freely supply without one restricting the other. The pump in the sterndrive not only supplies water to the engine but also provides cooling for the sterndrive so restricting thsi flow is not a good condition and would be difficult to notice with the engine running at normal temperature. Also in this case it would be better to install the crank driven pump so you don’t get into new belts and routing issues.
