Crusader Marine Cooling Systems in 1986 Carver with twin Crusader marine engines into salt water

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

David,

Thanks for your inquiry and the opportunity at earning your business. Fresh Water Cooling is considered closed cooling whereas raw water cooling is open cooling. Using the link below you can read a few tech articles outlining the specifics regarding various marine cooling systems. However based on the engines being 1986 model I will need to see a few pictures to see exactly what system will fit correctly. Also Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!

Mercruiser Parts – Marine Exhaust System in a Carver boat with two 3.7 1989 4 cyl Mercruiser engines that have closed cooling systems. Do I ever need to replace the manifolds on these engines?

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Gary,

Typically engines with closed cooling would have the manifold replaced every 15 – 20 years and the riser every 5 – 10 when used in salt water. Using the link below you can add your selected product(s) to your shopping cart and the shipping estimator located at the bottom of the shopping cart page will give you a shipping cost based on your specific postal code. Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!

Mercruiser Parts – Closed Cooling System for 2002 – 2010 Carb 4.3L V6 & 5.0/5.7L V8 with Dry Joint Exhaust

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

David,

Having been involved with the design and development of Mercruiser cooling and exhaust systems for many years up until 2002 I’m quite familiar with the closed systems and their requirements. The only time you would really need an additional pump would be if you operate in water temperatures in excess of 90F which I doubt you do being from CA, or with engines in excess of 300 Hp. Using the link below you can review the high capacity system and also add it to your shopping cart and the shipping estimator located at the bottom of the shopping cart page will give you a shipping cost based on your specific postal code. Let me know if you need any further technical information or help placing your order. In either case I will be glad to assist!
